Thirty-five students from SEGi College Kuala Lumpur (SCKL) took part in this inaugural adventure camp-out from 23 to 25 October 2009. This 3day-2night SEGi Leadership Camp is one of the benefits that only SEGi students enjoy which instills leadership skills and builds character strength.
The bus departed from the campus at 10a.m. and headed towards Ulu Yam passing the scenic view of Batu Dam. The camp started with an ice breaker session after the students settled down in their tents and designed their team flags.
Four teams were formed. Team names were based on the theme ‘Communication & Trust.’ The teams took slightly more than an hour to come out with a slogan to reflect the theme. SEGi College logo was a must to be included in the design of their team flags. The purpose of the theme was to stress on the importance of communication and teamwork.
The first activity was jungle trekking. Half way through the 2-hour grueling trek there was a heavy downpour, resulting in the group using a less dangerous short-cut on the way back to ensure safety for all. The group came across a river swollen from the rain, making the crossing difficult. Luckily there was a tree trunk that acted as a bridge.
The teams then gathered to present their flag slogan after dinner. The presentations were made interesting with short skits ending this long, but eventful first day.
On day 2, students went for Abseiling and Flying Fox. Just after a short trek into the jungle, they reached the abseiling point set at a waterfall. After these exciting activities the students relaxed in the waterfall, rested in their tents or bathed in the river.
A Jungle Walk was conducted at night. Using a limited number of torch lights, the team went on their very first experience walking in the jungle at near total darkness. Teamwork became more evident as they communicated and supported each other throughout the walk.
Day 3, before departing for KL, students took part in an Explorace competition and received a Certificate of Achievement at the end of the trip. All in all, it was an exciting and memorable trip with new friends found and old friends connected!
